Claim in Erdős problems: literature check, graph theory (1)
A published paper or arXiv preprint answers the main question of Erdős Problem #159 (theorem erdos_159 in formal-conjectures) in full (proof, disproof, or the exact value asked for) with no hypotheses beyond the problem's own.
There exists some constant c>0 such that R(C_4,K_n) \ll n^{2-c}. The prize of $100 is offered in [Er78] for a proof or disproof. This problem is #17 in Ramsey Theory in the graphs problem collection.

“for some ϵ>0 and every n≥1; this is still open.”
Note: Cambie and Freschi, A general bound on R(C_k,H), arXiv:2606.11174 (June 2026), open-questions section: the full sentence says Erdos posed proving R(C4,K_n) <= n^(2-eps) for some eps>0 and this is still open; the next paragraph identifies it as #159 on erdosproblems.com. Same question as erdos_159 (exists c>0 with R(C4,K_n) << n^(2-c)), up to the multiplicative constant. Known bounds remain Omega(n^(3/2)/log n) (Spencer 1977) and O(n^2/log^2 n) (Szemeredi; Erdos-Faudree-Rousseau-Schelp 1978).
“Perhaps one of the most challenging open conjectures in Ramsey Theory is the following conjecture of Erdős”
Note: J. Verstraete, Recent progress in Ramsey Theory, arXiv:2503.22094 (March 2025), Section 1.2: calls Conjecture 3 (exists eps>0 with r(C4,t) <= t^(2-eps) for large t, where r(C4,t) = R(C4,K_t)) open; it is erdos_159 (exists c>0 with R(C4,K_n) << n^(2-c)), equivalent after adjusting eps and the constant. The survey lists best bounds O(t^2/(log t)^2) (Szemeredi) and Omega(t^(3/2)/log t).
