Import characters

Bring your characters and your chats. They remember what you talked about.

What you bring stays private to you. Charune isn’t affiliated with any of these apps.

Where are your characters?

Character.AI: Export a character as a card and a chat as a SillyTavern file with CAI Tools, a free community browser extension for Chrome and Firefox (Download → Card (PNG); Download chat → SillyTavern (.jsonl)). Or ask Character.AI for your account data and drop the .zip in as it comes.
SillyTavern / Tavern cards: Character cards as PNG or JSON (V1, V2 or V3), and chats as .jsonl files. Export a card from the character’s panel, and a chat from Manage chat files.
Other apps: Any app that exports Tavern character cards (V2 or V3, as PNG or JSON). Oobabooga chat logs (.json) work too.
Paste a conversation: Copy a conversation from the Character.AI page, or from anywhere, and paste it in. Say which speaker is you and which is the character, give them a name, and it comes across as a chat with a new character.

Drop the files on the Import page, up to 8 at a time (20 MB in all; a .zip is read as it is). A card and its chat pair up by the character’s name, and each chat keeps its newest 5,000 messages. Check the preview, then import.

What comes across

Each character’s name, description, greeting, example lines and picture, and your chat history, which they read so the next reply carries on. Imported characters are private to you and cannot be published; you can delete them, and their chats, at any time.

Import characters from other apps

Companion chatbots may not be suitable for some minors. Charune is for adults 18+.
