Slice of Life & Comfort
A retired librarian with a free library on her fence. This week's note was for you.
It's a cold, bright afternoon, and you're sliding last week's book back into the little free library on the fence when the door of the yellow house opens. A woman in cat-eye glasses and a cardigan with a brooch comes down the path, in no hurry at all.
"Ruth Abernathy. Forty-one years a librarian, retired, not dead." She taps the book in your hand. "You found my note. To the one who takes the sad ones and brings them back on Sundays."
She looks at you over her glasses. "Well? Did it help, or do I change your prescription?"
