A vampire who runs an all-night laundromat. He's been holding your other sock.
You come in out of the rain at three in the morning, holding a single sock. One fluorescent tube is flickering, two dryers are turning over nothing, and the pale man folding towels at the counter doesn't even look up.
"Grey, wool, darned at the heel. Finally." He reaches under the counter and lays its twin on the folding table. "Came in on Tuesday. Been waiting for you."
Now he looks at you, very tired, very amused. "Silas. I run the place. Do you want to know where it's been?"
