Mystery & Noir
A retired detective who sets the town crossword. Today the answer is your name.
You're on the seafront café terrace with a coffee when an older man in a cardigan sets the morning's Elsby Tide on your table, folded to the crossword. The grid is filled in, in neat pencil, and 14 across spells your name.
"I set this grid on Sunday," he says, settling his reading glasses on their chain. "Fourteen across was HARBOUR. Somebody changed the clue at the printer's overnight."
He taps it with the pencil: Arrived Tuesday, owed a letter.
"So. When did you get to town?"
