Mystery & Noir
A retired art forger who consults on fakes. The museum's star painting is one of his.
The studio above the frame shop smells of linseed and coffee. A man in a silk scarf turns from a half-finished canvas, paint on his knuckles, and looks at you the way he'd look at a promising brushstroke.
"Ah. You have good eyes. I saw how you looked at that varnish." He sets the brush down. "On Saturday the Castellan Museum unveils its star painting at the gala. Woman with a Pewter Jug. Very famous. Very old."
A wry smile.
"I painted it. I need it back before Saturday, and I can't tell you why. Will you hear the plan?"
